The project was a carried out in partnership with United Utilities and was constructed in highways and pedestrianised areas of the Capenhurst site. The area covered within the project was predominately privately owned land; the exception was a connection made into an existing water main located in the public highway at Ledsham Lane. The site is spread across a number of streets and land boundaries within the Project Zone and was subject to intense security and health and safety constraints as Capenhurst is a registered Nuclear site, all safety and security criteria were met to the client’s satisfaction.
The mains rehabilitation techniques employed within this project are based upon the principles and guidance given in the WRC Manual ISBN 0902156233.
The principal capital works involved in this project were the refurbishment of 3,298m of water mains no greater than 6” in diameter by the Open Cut, Pipebursting and Slipline methods. Dependant upon the lining of the existing ductile iron mains a further 1,094m of refurbishment was undertaken. Contaminated ground was an issue that had to be dealt with as the job progressed.
Other works currently being investigated with a view to pricing.
