Subterra Resin Makes the Grade
December 2008

Subterra have received confirmation from the Water Regulations Advisory Service that its spray-applied epoxy resin, ELC 257/91, has successfully passed its latest 5-year drinking water contact audit check test.

The Subterra ELC 257/91 resin product is used exclusively by a leading UK pipe manufacturer for sealing cement mortar linings in new ductile iron pipes. The seal coating of ELC 257/91 prevents the fresh cement lining from tainting the water supply and affecting the taste of the water.

David Lawlor, Manager of Subterra’s resin production facility at Dorchester in Dorset, says “Getting confirmation of the WRAS approval for the ELC 257/91 material has ensured that we can retain this important supply contract with a key customer”.

Changing Lives Challenge
Novenber 2008

Making a difference to people’s lives is something that we take seriously at Daniel, so when we offered the opportunity to support United Utilities and Water Aid for the ‘Changing Lives Challenge’ we were more than happy to oblige.

With the donation and support of Daniel, the United Utilities Executive Leadership Team was able to travel to Zambia and build a block of toilets for use by the local community and school.

The scale of what is required just to ensure there is access to basic sanitation and clean drinking water across Zambia is massive and whilst this may only seem like one small job, it had a huge impact on the local community.

Daniel start Bristol Water Term Contract
October 2008

This month saw the start of the new Network Maintenance and Associated works contract with Bristol Water.

Daniel were selected for the works based on overall quality, capability, and commitment to deliver to the expectations of Bristol Water and its customers. This has been seen by all parties as a new contract, not just an extension of the current arrangements and will provide us with the opportunity to continue to develop a long term, collaborative partnership with Bristol Water.

The contract runs from 1st October 2008 until 2013 with an optional extension, which could see the contract continue to 2018.

Suit on Site
October 2008

In conjunction with Hays Recruitment Consultants, Daniel participated in the annual ‘Suits on Site’ charity event where Simone Waters, Hays Recruitment, spent the day with our Plant and Transport team at Warrington Head Office. In return for her hard labour, we donated £150 towards The Lighthouse Club charity which supports victims of workplace accidents and their families in the construction industry.

Simone Water, Hays Recruitment, commented “It was hard work, but it was a great task to support a worthwhile charity, plus it will give me first hand experience of what is required when we place people out on site. Across the UK, we are hoping that this event will raise over £5,000 for the Lighthouse Club. Thanks to Daniel Contractors for helping us towards this target.”

No Dig Live
September 2008

Daniel, Land & Marine, Subterra and Pipeway jointly exhibited at the No Dig Live Exhibition which was held at The National Agricultural near Coventry. No Dig Live, which is sponsored by UKSTT, is the main trenchless technology event in the United Kingdom and showcases trenchless pipeline installation and rehabilitation techniques. This event provided all of the Daniel companies the opportunity to display our wide range of specialist pipeline systems. It also offered us the chance to meet with new and existing clients and discuss the prospects of using our systems and products on potential projects.

The show proved extremely successful and we are looking forward to gaining a number of business opportunities from our participation.
Aquatech Exhibition, Amsterdam
September 2008

In late September Subterra, in conjunction with their Dutch Licensee BAM Nelis Infra, exhibited at the International Aquatech Exhibition in Amsterdam. This provided an opportunity to meet Water Engineers from around the world and present our Epoxy and PU spray and Close Fit PE Lining Technology. Subterra has led the world in the field of Close Fit PE Lining, last year completing projects in New York, Tokyo, Portugal, Holland and Germany. Our last product, Fastline Plus which is a spray applied PU Resin, provoked great interest from delegates and we have since received enquiries from Finland and Singapore.

Andrew Ball was delighted that the show had proved successful in promoting Subterra’s products and systems to a world audience as well as helping to launch Subterra as a Daniel company.
